Job Title: Control Systems Engineer / PLC Programmer
Location: Norwich, Norfolk
Essential Automation Ltd specialise in offering control panel and automation solutions to a variety of industries through control system design and manufacture, software development and electrical installation. Our main areas of expertise are crop handling processing & storage, animal feed manufacturing, freezing & refrigeration, fresh water pumping and irrigation.
We are seeking a talented Control Systems Engineer / PLC Programmer to join our small team. As a Control Systems Engineer, you will work on control systems design, development, implementation, and maintenance projects as well as assisting with the commissioning of systems on site and fault-finding control panel breakdowns. You will have the opportunity to work with a team of skilled electrical engineers to develop and maintain advanced control systems and electrical control equipment for our clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop control systems architecture, PLC & HMI code for various types of industrial processes, mostly in the food production & agriculture sector.
- Develop and maintain control system documentation including functional descriptions, control narratives, and operating procedures.
- Develop and maintain control panel schematic drawings using AutoCAD
- Analyse system performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement changes as needed.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical breakdowns in control systems and equipment at customers sites.
- Onsite commissioning and electrical panel modifications as needed.
Requirements:
- Proficient in programming languages such as Ladder Logic and Structured Text using Siemens TIA Portal, Allen Bradley / Rockwell Studio 5000, Mitsubishi GXWorks and Beijer iX Developer.
- An electrical qualification to NVQ level 3 along with a BS7671:2022 would be an advantage.
- Be electrically biased but have a basic knowledge of mechanical aspects i.e. Pneumatics, Hydraulics etc.
- At least 5 years of experience in control systems design, development, and programming
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to control systems and machine safety.
- Have strong fault-finding skills and the willingness and confidence to attend site to support customers with control panel breakdowns and software issues.
- Be prepared to occasionally travel away from home.
- Ability to wire control panel and field systems would be an advantage.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently, without instruction and as part of a team.
- UK Driving licence – Preferably clean.
Benefits:
- Salary: £32,000 - £45,000 - Negotiable depending on skills and experience
